Ever Active
Positive gerontology = successful aging + productive aging + civic engagement (Johnson & Mutchler 2014)
Successful aging is occurring at the intersection of good health, high physical and cognitive functioning, and active involvement in social activities. Rowe and Kahn’s (1987, 1997, 1998).
The productive aging underscores the multiple ways people contribute to their own health, to their families and communities, and to society as they age (Butler & Gleason, 1985) through participating in these activities.
Civic engagement is “an individual or collective action designed to address a public concern or an unmet human, educational, health care, environmental, or public safety need” (U.S. Administration on Aging, 2006).
